Qualyzer is a free and open-source desktop application to support researchers in conducting qualitative inquiries. Qualyzer helps users transcribe interviews, annotate (or code) the transcripts, and generally view and manage information collected and generated as part of a qualitative study.
Store and manage information related to participants (also called subjects or informants) and investigators. Store and manage transcripts, memos (free-form notes), and codes. Organize your work in separate projects. Quickly navigate to the documents related to different participants or transcripts.
Associate a transcript with an audio file, play the audio file while transcribing, format your text (bold, italic, underline). Quickly seek a few seconds forwards and backwards while listening to the audio file. Import Rich Text Documents saved from different text editors (including Microsoft Word).
Select a fragment of text in a transcript and associate the fragment with a code. Code names are autocompleted to prevent spelling errors, and can also be created on the fly. Attach multiple codes to a fragment. Hovering the mouse over a fragment shows the associated codes. Quick access to coded fragments is also possible through the marker in the right margin.
View your list of codes and their frequencies. Export the list of codes into a CSV format (which can be opened in Excel). See all fragments associated with a code, surrounded by a few sentences. Click on a fragment to navigate to the corresponding transcript. Organize your codes into hierarchies.
